Williams, et al v. Angeles Abbey Memorial Park
Case Synopsis
Arias Sanguinetti represented families in a lawsuit against Angeles Abbey Memorial Park in Compton, where loved ones were buried in a dirt shoulder beneath a roadwayโafter being led to believe they were being laid to rest in a grassy burial site.
Families, many from low-income communities, attended graveside services in one area, only to later discover their relatives were actually buried elsewhereโsometimes with up to six bodies in a single grave. The only visible markers were numbers painted on a curb. Some graves were eventually driven over by cars, as the cemetery had paved over the area and reconfigured the road.
This deception caused lasting grief, confusion, and outrage among families who trusted the cemetery to honor their loved ones.
This case helped expose systemic misconduct in the death care industry and gave a voice to families who were denied the dignity and truth they deserved.
