Jane Doe, et al. v. University of Southern California
Case Synopsis
Our firm secured a record-breaking $852 million settlement against Dr. George Tyndall and the University of Southern California—the largest sex abuse settlement ever reached with a university.
For decades, Dr. Tyndall exploited the trust of his patients, masking his predatory behavior as medical care. Despite multiple reports of misconduct, USC failed to act, allowing his abuse to continue unchecked.
When his actions finally came to light, many survivors faced statute of limitations barriers that could have prevented them from seeking justice. Recognizing the need for change, we played a key role in advocating for Assembly Bill 1510, which granted these women the legal right to pursue claims against Tyndall and USC. Because of this law, hundreds of survivors who would have otherwise been denied justice were able to hold the university accountable.
This landmark case has set a precedent, prompting universities and institutions across the country to re-evaluate their policies and take action to prevent similar failures. The courage of these women in speaking out not only led to justice for themselves but also helped protect future generations from the same abuse.
