Isidoro v. Cornejo
Case Synopsis
Maria Candelaria Isidoro, a 38-year-old deaf-mute woman, was walking to her second job when her life was changed in an instant. While crossing at a marked, signal-controlled crosswalk in Anaheim, she was struck by a 14,900-pound flatbed truck driven by an employee of L.A.R.K. Industries. The driver was cited and ultimately pled guilty to failing to yield to a pedestrian under California law. Despite this, the defendants denied liability throughout litigation. Ms. Isidoro suffered serious and lasting injuries that significantly limited her ability to work and live independently. She had been holding down two jobs to support herself at the time of the crash. The legal team fought to hold the company accountable and, just before trial, secured a $2 million settlement on her behalf. The result brought closure and financial relief to a woman who simply wanted to get safely from one job to the next.
