Mike Arias has filed numerous lawsuits against the University of Southern California and Dr. George Tyndall on behalf of women who allege they were sexually abused and illicitly photographed by the disgraced USC OB/GYN. Those lawsuits are now pending in the Los Angeles Superior Court, where Mr. Arias has been designated as co-liaison counsel for all plaintiffs who have brought claims against USC and Dr. Tyndall.
Dr. Tyndall practiced at USC’s Engemann Student Health Center beginning in 1987 until he was suspended in 2016. Tyndall claimed to have provided “care” to thousands and thousands of Trojan women during this time.
The lawsuits allege that USC received repeated complaints from students who were treated by Dr. Tyndall as well as his co-workers. Despite these warnings, the school failed to take any action for years. It wasn’t until 2016 that USC finally hired an outside firm to investigate Tyndall’s conduct. That outside firm found that Tyndall “exhibited unprofessional and inappropriate behavior” and that his pelvic exams were outside “current standards of care.”
Despite the numerous complaints to the school and the findings of the outside firm hired by the school, USC shockingly agreed to enter a “no finding” conclusion related to the investigation, characterized Dr. Tyndall’s departure as a resignation, and actually provide him severance pay.
Mr. Arias has been interviewed by several media outlets regarding the cases against USC, including to comment on USC’s proposed $215 million offer to settle a separate federal class action case.
