DeWitt v. Odiseo Jimenez
Case Synopsis
In January of 2021, in one of California’s earliest fully virtual jury trials, Arias Sanguinetti secured a $1.37 million verdict on behalf of Grace DeWitt, a college student who suffered severe injuries due to another student’s negligent actions. While walking with friends, Grace was suddenly picked up without warning by a fellow student who began to run, then tripped and fell—crushing Grace between himself and the curb. She sustained extensive injuries to her shoulder, back, hip, and ribs. Over the next four years, she underwent multiple surgeries, with additional operations still needed to manage her ongoing pain and physical limitations.
The defendant admitted fault for only one of the injuries, but our firm proved the full scope of harm through compelling testimony, expert evidence, and careful preparation.
The virtual trial, held in Alameda County Superior Court, demonstrated that justice can still be delivered—even when the courtroom looks different.
