Kimberly Wenceslao

Kimberly Wenceslao is a Legal Assistant at Arias Sanguinetti Trial Lawyers in the firm’s Southern California office. She supports attorneys through legal research, case management, document preparation, and client-centered administrative support. With a background rooted in public interest law, community advocacy, and bilingual client service, Kim approaches her work with empathy, curiosity, and a strong desire to understand not only the legal issues involved in a case, but the people and communities affected by them.

As a young legal assistant at a small immigration practice, she worked with clients whose communities were familiar to her. The experience showed her how much impact a legal professional could have even early in a career and helped establish the kind of service-oriented work she wanted to continue pursuing. She later expanded that experience through public interest and immigrant-rights work, including serving as an interpreter with a legal services organization. In that role, Kim supported attorneys and Spanish-speaking clients through oral and written interpretation, declaration preparation, client interviews, hearing preparation, and other sensitive legal matters. The experience strengthened both her understanding of trauma-informed client service and her belief that meaningful legal advocacy begins with ensuring people can understand and participate in the process affecting their lives.

Language access remains an important part of Kim’s professional perspective. Fluent in English and Spanish, she understands that interpretation involves more than translating words. Clear communication can determine whether a client feels comfortable asking questions, understands what is happening in a case, and feels that their experience is being taken seriously. Her background has made cultural awareness, trust, and accessibility central to the way she thinks about client service. Mentorship is equally important to Kim. As the first person in her family to attend college, she has spent significant time helping students from low-income and underrepresented communities navigate college applications, financial aid, and higher education. She understands how difficult it can be to enter spaces without an existing roadmap and values opportunities to make those paths more accessible for the people coming behind her.

That perspective also shapes what Kim looks for in professional environments. Seeing diversity within Arias Sanguinetti gives her tangible examples of the kinds of professional paths that are possible and reinforces the importance of representation not simply as an image, but within decision-making roles. She particularly values environments where people across different roles are willing to teach one another and sees that culture of learning as one of the strongest aspects of her professional experience. Kim is also motivated by the plaintiff-side mission of Arias Sanguinetti. While she joined the firm in part to gain the hard skills of litigation and experience the pace and complexity of plaintiff practice, she was particularly drawn to the opportunity to advocate for individuals against larger institutions and corporations. For Kim, learning litigation is most meaningful when those skills can ultimately be used in service of people who may otherwise have less power within the systems affecting them.

Kim earned her Bachelor of Arts in Ethnicity, Race, and Migration from Yale University. Her academic background continues to influence the way she understands legal advocacy, particularly her interest in examining how systems, institutions, identity, and community intersect in people’s everyday lives. Kim continues developing her legal knowledge through Loyola Law School’s Coelho Law Fellowship and serves as a Legal Observer monitoring court proceedings. Her interest in law is deeply connected to how she understands community, identity, and systems. Her neighborhood and studies gave Kim a framework for thinking about how larger institutions and systems affect the everyday lives of individuals, families, and communities.

Outside of work, Kim spends as much time as possible near the water and outdoors. She enjoys the beach, hiking, and horseback riding, often accompanied by her dog, Mocha. She is also a passionate soccer fan and, along with her family, is an enthusiastic supporter of Mexican club Chivas.
