Katelyn Furman
Katelyn Furman is a Senior Paralegal at Arias Sanguinetti Trial Lawyers, based in the firm’s Southern California office. With nearly a decade of experience in the legal field, she supports attorneys throughout every stage of complex civil litigation, from initial case development through trial and resolution. Known for her organization, attention to detail, and ability to manage numerous moving pieces at once, Katelyn takes pride in being someone her attorneys, colleagues, and clients can rely on.
Her path into the legal profession began somewhat unexpectedly. After earning her bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from California State University, Long Beach, she accepted a receptionist position at a law firm without initially intending to build a career in law. Her attention to detail and potential were quickly recognized, and she progressed from receptionist to Legal Assistant before becoming a Paralegal. What began as an opportunity became a career she genuinely loved.
Throughout her career, Katelyn has managed complex litigation involving catastrophic injuries, premises liability, wrongful death, employment law, and sexual assault cases. She oversees all aspects of litigation support, including case management, motion practice, discovery, trial preparation, legal research, document production, e-filing, and coordination of depositions, mediations, and expert witnesses. Working closely with attorneys, she helps develop litigation strategy, manages client communications, mentors junior legal staff, and keeps cases moving efficiently from intake through settlement or trial.
What has kept Katelyn committed to the profession is the opportunity to combine the work she naturally excels at with helping people. She values being able to support clients through difficult circumstances, help organize the many details surrounding their cases, and contribute to work intended to make their lives better.
Katelyn is equally intentional about being a paralegal rather than viewing the role as a stepping stone to becoming an attorney. She believes strongly in building on her strengths and becoming exceptional at the work she loves. Inspired by senior paralegals she has worked alongside, she has made it a professional goal to become the person others can consistently turn to for knowledge, guidance, and support. She especially enjoys helping newer legal staff build confidence and understand that the learning curve that comes with complex litigation can be overcome with time, patience, and perseverance.
She is an active member of the Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles (CAALA) and Consumer Attorneys of California (CAOC). She values opportunities to continue learning from the plaintiffs’ bar, expand her professional relationships, and strengthen the knowledge she brings back to her work.
Commitment to growth has shaped Katelyn’s education as well. While gaining hands-on experience as a paralegal, she completed El Camino College’s Paralegal Studies program, earning both her Associate of Arts degree and Paralegal Certificate. She believes experience and education complement one another and encourages aspiring paralegals to pursue both when possible. Katelyn is currently pursuing her Master of Legal Studies at Pepperdine University. Her decision to pursue graduate education grew from a desire not to change careers, but to become an even stronger paralegal and develop as a leader within the profession. Her studies have given her a deeper understanding of the legal reasoning behind the work she performs every day, strengthening her ability to anticipate attorneys’ needs, support litigation strategy, and continue developing professionally.
Known for her compassionate and approachable personality, Katelyn believes strong client relationships begin with empathy. Her natural interest in people initially led her to study psychology before changing academic paths, and understanding people remains one of the aspects of her work she values most. Outside the office, Katelyn enjoys spending time with her husband and their cats, crocheting, building LEGO sets, rollerblading, practicing Pilates, and watching true crime documentaries.
