Jean Jewell
Jean Jewell serves as Director of Operations at Arias Sanguinetti Trial Lawyers, working from the firm’s Southern California office. She oversees firm operations while helping develop the people, processes, systems, and strategic infrastructure necessary to support the firm’s continued growth.
With more than 25 years of executive leadership experience in the legal industry, Jean has worked across virtually every dimension of law firm management. Her experience includes strategic planning, financial operations, human resources, accounting, facilities, technology implementation, business planning, recruiting, organizational development, talent development, and operational transformation. Prior to joining Arias Sanguinetti, she held leadership positions including Executive Director, Chief Financial Officer, Director of Administration, Office Administrator, and Legal Industry Consultant.
After years of building systems, developing strategies, writing procedures, and managing organizations, she began asking a larger question: Did the work ultimately make a difference in someone’s life? Her own experience of struggling without many resources gave that question personal meaning. She chose Arias Sanguinetti because the firm provides a resource for people who may have nowhere else to turn and because she wanted the next chapter of her career to be spent doing work that matters.
Jean brings that people-centered perspective to organizational leadership. She believes developing a successful law firm is not simply about business development or organizational growth; it is also about developing people. Mentoring professionals, developing young lawyers and emerging leaders, improving communication, and helping people grow personally and professionally are important components of how she defines leadership.
She is also a Certified Legal Manager (CLM) through the Association of Legal Administrators (ALA). The CLM credential requires demonstrated knowledge across the core disciplines involved in law firm administration, including finance, ethics, information technology, human resources, and operations. Her involvement in the legal management profession extends well beyond certification. Jean has held leadership roles within the Association of Legal Administrators, written extensively about legal management, spoken on topics including communication, continuing education, imposter syndrome and antitrust considerations for legal organizations, and participated in international legal management programming. She has also received three ALA “Idea Awards” recognizing innovative approaches to legal management.
Jean earned her Bachelor of Arts in Music from Yale University. Her musical background remains an important influence on how she thinks about leadership. She trained primarily in flute and voice and also studied piano, oboe, piccolo, saxophone, orchestration, arranging, and composition. For Jean, ensemble music offers a particularly useful model for organizations: people with different roles come together around a shared vision, sometimes leading, sometimes supporting, but each contributing something distinct to the final result.
That philosophy continues to shape her work today. Jean believes organizations do not need everyone to think alike or “play the same part.” Strong leadership creates the conditions for different talents and perspectives to work together toward something larger than any one person could create alone. Outside of work, Jean paints, makes clothing and jewelry, enjoys science, technology and poetry, and studies languages.
