Mike Arias represents roughly 80 women who are part of a class action lawsuit against USC claiming they are victims of disgraced gynecologist George Tyndall. On Friday, October 19, USC announced a proposed settlement in the amount of $215 million to settle the federal class action filed against the school.
Several media outlets including ABC, the Los Angeles Times, the Association Press, Law360, the Los Angeles Daily Journal and many others interviewed Mr. Arias who said, among other things, “It’s not a victim’s settlement, it’s a protect Dr. Tyndall settlement.” Mr. Arias advised members of the class to opt out, telling the Los Angeles Times “You are going to have a lot of people opt out of this settlement, I will guarantee that.”
The proposed settlement would provide $2,500 to any USC student treated by Tyndall during his three-decade tenure and up to $250,000 to those who allege they were abused by him. As many as 17,000 students and alumnae are eligible, a university lawyer said.
