Yuki Cushing-Murray v. Far East Building, et al.
Case Synopsis
Arias Sanguinetti secured a $1.1 million settlement in a housing discrimination case involving a federally regulated, low-income apartment building in Los Angeles. The case was brought on behalf of a 67-year-old tenant with limited mobility who had lived on the third floor since 2004. Despite her disability, the buildingโs owners repeatedly failed to make necessary accommodationsโallegedly violating fair housing laws. The suit detailed years of neglect, including a broken stove left unrepaired since 2017, a malfunctioning elevator, and an inoperative intercom system that forced her to climb three flights of stairs to let visitors in. The case also alleged that her caregiver was denied proper access to the building. The settlement reflects a significant result in holding landlords accountable for discriminatory and negligent practices against disabled tenants.
Our client deserved justice and the building management had to be held accountable. We were proud to deliver this result.
