Becerra vs. City of Los Angeles
Case Synopsis
Arias Sanguinetti represented Maria Becerra, a 26-year-old pedestrian who was hit by a City of Los Angeles sanitation truck while crossing Reseda Boulevard in a marked crosswalk in 2012.
Becerra suffered catastrophic injuries, including limited mobility and permanent loss of fertility. She is no longer able to work and requires ongoing medical care. The cityโs own analysis acknowledged a likely blind spot on the trash truck and estimated that a trial could have resulted in a verdict twice as large.
The Los Angeles City Council approved a $10 million settlement. These funds will support Becerraโs recovery and help restore stability to her life after the crash. We’re proud to have held the city responsible for its negligence.
