Alexander F. Harper
Alexander F. Harper is Senior Trial Counsel at Arias Sanguinetti Trial Lawyers, based in the firm’s Northern California office. A dual-licensed trial lawyer in California and Texas, he handles complex civil litigation with a focus on catastrophic injury, premises liability, product liability, and wrongful death.
Over the course of his career, Alexander has handled more than 4,000 matters, served as first-chair trial counsel in more than 60 jury and bench trials, and conducted more than 3,500 evidentiary hearings. He manages cases from initial investigation through appeal, with strength in expert-driven litigation involving forensic science, toxicology, accident reconstruction, medical causation, and safety compliance.
Before joining the plaintiffs’ bar, Alexander spent years on the other side of the aisle, representing businesses, insurers, and Fortune 500 companies in high-stakes litigation involving premises liability, trucking and transportation, product-related claims, and catastrophic injury. That defense-side experience gives him an insider’s understanding of how large corporations and their carriers evaluate, defend, and try cases — insight he now brings to bear on behalf of injured clients.
Alexander built much of that trial experience earlier in his career, first as a senior Deputy District Attorney and later in his own criminal defense practice in Oakland, trying cases from both sides of the courtroom. That high-volume, high stakes work in criminal court sharpened the trial strategy and courtroom advocacy that define his practice today.
Alexander is also a retired Lieutenant Commander in the United States Navy, having served more than two decades in uniform and earned the Bronze Star Medal. He is an accredited attorney before the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
He earned his J.D. from the University of Florida College of Law after receiving his B.A. in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley. Outside the courtroom, Alexander is an avid long-distance motorcycle rider and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Much of his time away from the practice is spent exploring the national parks with his daughters.
