Tesla has issued 2 more recalls for its beleaguered Cybertruck model. The recalls add to the growing list of issues that Tesla has acknowledged in the vehicle that has far from lived up to its futuristic billing. According to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) releases, the Cybertruck recalls concern a malfunctioning wiper blade motor that can fail to operate suddenly thus causing severe visibility restrictions during rainfall and a poorly-installed cosmetic piece on the vehicle’s trunk that can come loose and fall off causing serious safety concerns for other vehicles on the road.
Tesla continues to put style over safety in its engineering. Some claims place the number of Tesla vehicles on American roads at over 2 million. The scale of this public safety hazard has had catastrophic consequences, with recent NHTSA investigations revealing 467 autopilot related crashes leading to well over a dozen deaths. Tesla vehicles have also suffered countless instances of unintended acceleration, failed airbags, and more critical safety concerns that have given rise to serious injury and death.
Tesla’s Cybertruck faced many high profile delays in production. These recalls represent yet another indication that the trucks that have been delivered to the general public and placed on public roadways were far from ready or safe. These failures add to Tesla’s well-earned reputation for flaunting public safety. In April of 2024, the NHTSA launched a probe into Tesla’s insufficient recall that was meant to curb the most hazardous uses of Tesla’s autopilot feature. The NHTSA launched this investigation because Tesla’s critical December 2023 recall of over 2 million vehicles turned out to ignore central NHTSA safety concerns and could be easily reversed if a driver wanted to opt-out.
