Emily Smith
Emily Smith is a Paralegal at Arias Sanguinetti Trial Lawyers, based in the firm’s Nevada office. With a decade of experience in the legal field, Emily supports attorneys and clients in civil litigation, personal injury, discovery, case management, and other complex matters. Her approach to the profession is grounded in a simple belief: legal work is ultimately about people, and the people who come to the firm are often navigating circumstances they never expected to face.
That understanding has shaped Emily’s work at Arias Sanguinetti from the beginning. Some of her earliest matters with the firm involved sexual assault and abuse cases. For Emily, a case is never simply paperwork or another assignment on a calendar. She recognizes that the work entrusted to the legal team represents a real person’s life, often during one of its most difficult chapters.
Emily did not initially set out to become a paralegal. Her introduction to law came unexpectedly. While attending a political convention for a family friend, Emily met an attorney who encouraged her to apply for a receptionist position at his law firm. Although she had no previous legal experience, she accepted the opportunity and quickly began taking on responsibilities more closely resembling those of a legal assistant, including scheduling depositions, assisting with office operations, and supporting the legal team. A boss later offered to teach her the profession hands-on, while colleagues and mentors encouraged her growth. Emily learned through experience, gradually taking on greater responsibilities and ultimately earning the role of paralegal.
Throughout her career, Emily has built significant experience in the day-to-day work that keeps litigation moving. She has managed attorney calendars, coordinated depositions and subpoenas, handled discovery, conducted legal research, reviewed medical records, prepared court filings, communicated with opposing counsel, and managed substantial caseloads. Her personal injury experience has also required close communication with clients, medical providers, insurance adjusters, and witnesses, including assisting with intake, gathering case information, drafting demands and counter-demands, and communicating with carriers during negotiations.
Emily is known within her team for being willing to step in wherever she is needed. She is comfortable admitting when she does not know something, asking for help when necessary, and learning new responsibilities rather than limiting herself to a defined job description. She is equally comfortable taking charge when something needs to move forward. That willingness to learn has been central to Emily’s professional growth. Her path was built through initiative, mentorship, hands-on experience, and a willingness to continually take on more.
Outside of work, Emily enjoys hiking, cooking, exploring new places, and spending time with her two dogs. She is always up for an adventure and has been known to turn discovering an interesting destination into an impromptu weekend trip.
